Take a deep breath...now breathe out. Ahh...isn't that great? There is an old song that says "You are the air I breathe. Your Holy presence living in me. You are my daily Bread. Your very Word spoken to me. I'm lost without You..."
This year let's live in His Peace and let go of all the things that distract our focus from being on Him. God has given us a length of time on this Earth...what kinds of stewards are we being with that time?
I feel like this is a season of pruning- cutting back the dead things so that new life can spring forth. I have been going through my house and "dejunking". What a fun thing to do at the end or beginning of a year! Lets start fresh without all the STUFF that has been weighing us down. I believe that is also time to dejunk the things that are taking up my time that are not productive. I love the beginning of the year because it is a time of re-evaluation for me. What were my goals last year? Have I succeeded in reaching them, or at least made some progress?
Distractions settle in easily and if we are not on guard they can become our main focus! Time with God is never wasted time, in fact it makes the rest of our time even more productive. We must not allow our daily planner to take the place of our daily Planner.
What are our goals this year? Maybe reading through the Bible in one year, improving our temples for the Holy Spirit by getting healthy, or learning a new instrument on which to praise the Lord? Getting out of debt? Perhaps teaching a Bible study or going on a missions trip, or writing a book? Maybe our thoughts are about spending more quality time with our family or preparing for the day that we will have a family. Perhaps taking an educational course like How To Fulfill Your Financial Destiny or Gifted to Succeed.
It is a time for new beginnings. Do we have any unforgiveness in our hearts? Let's ask God to reveal this to us so that it will not follow us into this fresh new year.
If any of these things have struck a chord with your heart, take them to the Lord in prayer, share them with a spiritual counselor or two, and ask God for His peace if you are to proceed. Let's get rid of that which is holding us back, and move forward into that which He is calling us into. It's a new year! I'm excited! Are you?
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
