|Most of one of the Petitioning Groups|
My generation is taking a stand for life! With a baby's first picture now being a sonogram, it is easy to see why. People my age are able to literally SEE a baby's fully formed body while it is still in the womb.
Tuesday was Florida's Primary Race. I had the privilege of coordinating a group of young adults for petitioning at the polls, specifically the poll at our community college. I am active in the Personhood movement in Florida, seeking to amend the Florida constitution to define the pre-born, elderly, and disabled as “persons” so they have the right to life. Why am I involved in pro-life work? Because Jesus came to give us LIFE and that more abundantly! Also, the Bible states that God knew us before we were formed, and that He gives us callings before we are birthed (Jeremiah 1).
The day was pretty slow it seemed as far as voters coming in and out. Some speculated that folks may be using absentee ballots more now than they used to, or it may just be that people are not as interested in a primary as they are in the general election. Either way, “Man counts hours and petitions; God counts obedient hearts!” (God's sweet voice of edification to me.) The Battle is the Lord's! Here are a couple testimonies:
As my best friend and I were petitioning for the ProLife Petition, we asked a woman to sign and she was extremely quick to say no. She walked to her car, and we just turned our backs to the car. As we turned away, the woman rushed back quicker than she walked away to sign. She said "Oh! I need to sign this one!" She explained how this was an important petition and worth the two minutes of her time. God is softening hearts. -Kayla R.
Today, I had a heartbreaking volunteer experience: asking people to sign pro-life petitions. Being formerly pro-choice, I understand the merits of both sides; at the end of the day, I believe the God of the Bible is greater than any circumstance (even when we can't see or understand that) and abortion - no matter how "warranted" - is murder. But, I didn't say any of that. All I said was hello, asked if they'd like to sign a pro-life petition (to amend the Florida Constitution and guarantee the right to life), explained if requested, and wished them a good evening. I smiled the whole way through. Yet I was cussed at, argued at, even called names by the wife of an anonymous politician. My response? We prayed. Tonight, all of us who experienced this prayed for each other and every one of those people. We prayed they may know the love and grace of the God that forgave and is changing a pile of wretches like us. Why? Because, contrary to popular belief these days, that's what Christians do. God's love is a message of condemnation only to those fleeing the weight of conviction. -Ken J.
Turns out the candidate who's wife was mocking the pro-life petitioners lost his race. God will not be mocked. The experience has been eye opening to many of us on a very personal level. We got out of our church kid comfort zone and saw that there there is a battle going on out there. It is a battle for the souls of mankind. We do not look with eyes of flesh, but with spiritual eyes. We do not respond in the flesh, but in the Spirit with prayer and supplication for God to replace hearts of stone with hearts of flesh and reveal His love to those who are hurting. I was proud to see so many of my friends take time out of their busy schedules and stand for a righteous cause. It is God's cause that not one should perish without fulfilling the call that has been placed on each life.
