You may be thinking "I'm not into politics" or "everyone is corrupt" or "my vote won't matter".
We must take our thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ knowing that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us! God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, of love, and of a sound mind.
Romans 12:2 NIV says, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will."
What is God's will? I must say that having a president who usurps authority and becomes involved in every area of your life is not God's will. How do I know this? Because it was not God's will that Israel have a king. God warned Samuel what would happen if the Israelites were to have a king. This list of warnings is extremely reminiscent of the middle section of the Declaration of Independence. When the founders separated from the King of England they claimed, “No King but King Jesus!” Another motto (first suggested by Benjamin Franklin and often repeated during the Revolution) was similar in tone: “Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God.”
The Israelites did not heed God's warning, instead they said, “No, but there shall be a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations, that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.”
Many people in America today believe that a president is meant to fight their battles, give them rights, and provide every sort of assistance for them. Is this Biblical? No.
There is a place for government. Jesus said to render unto Caesar that which is Caesars, but He also said to Render unto God that which is God's. Are we also rendering unto Caesar that which is God's, or rendering unto Caesar (the government) a responsibility that God has bestowed upon us? This is a very important question.
What does the Bible say is OUR responsibility?
Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.
Providing for our family and relatives is our personal responsibility.
It is our responsibility to care for those around us who have come into financial hardship.
Christians are responsible for caring for orphans and widows.
Parents are responsible for raising Godly children.
So when you are deciding who to vote for please take into consideration which candidate will make you more responsible for that which God has already given you the responsibility for and which candidate is campaigning on the promise of fighting your battles for you.
